iOS 19 is expected to be one of Apple’s most significant software updates to date, promising to enhance the user experience in major ways. However, not every iPhone will be eligible for this latest version.

According to a leak from an anonymous account on X (formerly Twitter) - a source that previously provided accurate information about Apple device compatibility with earlier iOS versions - iOS 19 will not be available for iPhone XR, iPhone XS, or iPhone XS Max.

All three models use the A12 Bionic chip, which appears to be the cutoff for iOS 19 support.

All other iPhone models currently running iOS 18 are expected to continue receiving support with iOS 19. The full list includes: iPhone 16e, iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, iPhone 16 Pro Max, iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro, iPhone 14 Pro Max, iPhone 13, iPhone 13 mini, iPhone 13 Pro, iPhone 13 Pro Max, iPhone 12, iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12 Pro, iPhone 12 Pro Max, iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, iPhone 11 Pro Max, and iPhone SE (from the 2nd generation onward).

Although these devices will receive the iOS 19 update, some advanced features may be limited on older models due to hardware constraints. For instance, the Apple Intelligence feature in iOS 18 only works on the iPhone 15 Pro and upcoming iPhone 16 series.

As for iPadOS 19, the update is expected to drop support for the 7th generation budget iPad that uses the A10 Fusion chip. However, iPads with the A12 Bionic chip, such as the iPad mini 5, will still be compatible.

This anonymous source also accurately revealed the iOS 18 compatibility list prior to Apple’s official announcement.

iOS 19 will be Apple’s biggest iPhone revolution yet

A report from Bloomberg describes iOS 19 as “one of the most dramatic software overhauls” in Apple’s history.

The update is expected to bring the biggest design transformation seen in more than a decade. For comparison, iOS 7 marked a complete visual overhaul that defined Apple’s next design era.

With iOS 18, Apple rolled out AI features gradually over several updates, rather than all at once. It appears Apple plans to take a similar approach with iOS 19.

In fact, leaked information suggests Apple’s continued work on iOS 18 features may be slowing down development on iOS 19. As a result, users might receive new iOS 19 features in phases, as was done with iOS 18.

The design changes in iOS 19 will reportedly “fundamentally reshape” the operating system’s interface, aiming to provide a more consistent cross-platform experience. Apple plans to revamp icon styles, menus, apps, windows, and system buttons.

This design overhaul will take partial inspiration from visionOS, reflecting Apple’s intent to unify the look and feel of its software across platforms. The company is also expected to simplify device navigation and controls.

Details about specific design tweaks, new features, and other improvements in iOS 19 remain scarce. One previous leak hinted at a major overhaul of the Camera app.

Apple is expected to unveil iOS 19 and iPadOS 19 during its Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), which opens on June 9.
