This transition will allow candidates to register just 1–2 days before their exam and choose to take the test on any day of the week, providing greater scheduling flexibility. Results will be available within approximately two days.
“The computer-based format will be identical to the paper-based version across all four skills (Listening, Speaking, Reading, and Writing), ensuring fairness and standardization,” the British Council stated.
Options for paper-based candidates
For candidates who have registered for paper-based IELTS exams after March 29, test centers will contact them to offer alternative options, including:
A free switch to the computer-based IELTS exam.
A free reschedule to a paper-based test on or before March 29.
A full refund of the test fee.
Enhancing accessibility and convenience
The IELTS (International English Language Testing System) is the world’s most popular English proficiency test for postgraduate education and global migration.
Over 12,500 institutions worldwide, including universities, employers, and governments, recognize IELTS scores.
Additionally, IELTS now allows candidates to retake a single skill to improve their score, reducing costs and time compared to retaking the entire test.
This One Skill Retake option is available exclusively for computer-based IELTS exams.
