VietNamNet Bridge – The Department of Transportation of Hai Phong City has rejected 217 bus and truck drivers who fail to meet health conditions, many of them had a positive drug test.

Mr. Nguyen Duc Tho, Deputy Director of the Hai Phong Department of Transportation said the agency had asked the Ministry of Transportation and the Ministry of Health to legalize periodic health examinations for bus and truck drivers.

Tho said, that thanks to periodic health examination, the city found out 217 drivers who did not meet health criteria, including many drug addicts.

Mr. Khuat Viet Hung, Head of the Department for Transport, the Ministry of Transportation highly appreciated Hai Phong’s policies to prevent serious traffic accidents particularly in transport operations.

Hai Phong has the highest number of bus and truck drivers, especially container drivers.

The National Road Safety Commission is about to hold an online meeting with all 63 provinces and cities in the country on traffic safety in late February, chaired by a Deputy Prime Minister.

At this meeting, Hai Phong will report its experience in dealing with drivers who fail to meet health conditions and are drug addicts. Hai Phong’s methods will be applied in other provinces.
