Dang Thanh Huyen, one of the most prominent names in Vietnam’s contemporary art scene, has launched her second solo exhibition titled Where Time Slows Down at the Vietnam Fine Arts Museum. The exhibition explores themes of family, memories, and quiet moments in life.
The exhibition features 50 works in oil and silk, mostly large-format portraits depicting nature and family themes. All of the artworks were transported from Nha Trang, where the artist resides, to Hanoi for display.
During the opening ceremony, Dang Thanh Huyen shared her thoughts on the exhibition: “There are moments when we wish time would stop, just to hold onto the most precious things - a gaze, a smile, or the warmth of family. This exhibition is where I share fragments of memories, unspoken emotions, and quiet pauses amid life’s turbulence. Each painting is not just an image but an invitation to step into my world - where time slows down, gentle and full of love.”
According to the artist, Where Time Slows Down is not just an exhibition but a storytelling journey about family, memories, and serene moments. She believes that portraying loved ones on canvas carries a special responsibility - capturing not just their likeness but their essence, emotions, and spirit without being confined to realism.
Dang Thanh Huyen, born in 1984, became acquainted with painting at the age of 5 or 6 through art classes at the Children’s Palace. In 2008, she graduated from the Vietnam University of Industrial Fine Arts and earned her master’s degree in 2014. Her artistic style is a blend of realism and impressionism, characterized by a rich interplay of color and light.
Over the past five years, she has left her mark on the art world through exhibitions such as Huong Sac Ha Thanh (2019), Nhip Thoi Gian, and Be Ve Giac Mo.
The exhibition Where Time Slows Down is open until March 29.
