Among the honorees is 95-year-old Vietnamese director Xuan Phuong, celebrated for her influence in culture and education.

As described by the BBC, Xuan Phuong’s life is one of remarkable achievements. At the age of 16, she joined the resistance against French colonial rule and later witnessed key moments in Vietnam’s history during the struggles for independence. Her multifaceted career spans roles as a doctor, war correspondent, and director at Vietnam Television.

Even in retirement, she continued to break new ground. At 62, Phuong established the Lotus Gallery in Ho Chi Minh City, one of Vietnam’s first private art galleries, aiming to showcase Vietnamese art on the global stage.

This year’s list also includes extraordinary women from diverse fields such as science, sports, advocacy, and the arts.

Prominent names include NASA astronaut Sunita Williams, currently aboard the International Space Station (ISS), who represents the pinnacle of human perseverance and ingenuity. Similarly, Gisèle Pélicot of France, a survivor of harrowing abuse, now advocates for victims of sexual violence, embodying resilience and courage.

Athletes Rebeca Andrade (Brazilian Olympic gold medalist in gymnastics) and Allyson Felix (American track and field icon) are celebrated for their determination and excellence in sports. Meanwhile, Hollywood actress Sharon Stone and contemporary visual artist Tracey Emin use their platforms to challenge social norms and promote justice.

Nobel Peace Prize laureate Nadia Murad, an Iraqi activist, is recognized for her relentless fight for women’s rights and justice for victims of conflict. Climate advocate Adenike Oladosu of Nigeria and Mexican author Cristina Rivera Garza also stand out for their dedication to sustainability, equality, and cultural enrichment.
