Vietnam’s courts at all levels handled over 385,000 out of the 415,000 cases received, or 92.8 percent, in 2014, heard a conference on January 18.
According to a report delivered at the ongoing conference, the rate of cancelled and amended verdicts was 1.61 percent, down 0.1 percent against the previous year.
The Supreme People’s Court also coordinated with the Supreme People’s Procuracy and the Ministry of Public Security to deal with 55 cases claiming innocence with over-20-year imprisonment, life or death sentences.
Major cases, especially those related to corruption drawing public attention, were handled swiftly and strictly.
Deputy Standing Chief Judge Bui Ngoc Hoa attributed the results to the efficiency of the sector’s reform as well as the increasing quality of court officials.
In 2015, the sector defined to continue implementing the 2013 Constitution and the Party and National Assembly’s resolutions on judicial work and judicial reform, while promoting its reconciliation role in civil disputes and encouraging dialogue in administrative cases.
It will also strive for no mistakes in judgment so as to ensure human rights and fairness.
