VietNamNet Bridge - More than 73% of the chief executive officers (CEOs) of large enterprises in Vietnam were born in the 50s and 60s, according to statistics of the Vietnam Report released on Tuesday, January 27.

Accordingly, 41.5% of the CEOs of the 500 biggest enterprises in Vietnam are aged 46 to 55 (born in the 60s) and 31.7 percent are over 56 years old (born in the 50s). The CEOs born in the 80s account for 0.8 percent.

Thus, the majority of CEOs of the 500 largest businesses of Vietnam in 2014 were born in the 50s and 60s, and have the advantage of experience and wisdom in business.

Meanwhile, the advantage of those born in the 70s and 80s is that they studied in a better environment and had better access to information and new technologies and to international trade opportunities. And they are not bound by the language barrier.

However, the younger generation of CEOs lacks necessary leadership skills to become outstanding candidates for senior executive positions in business. It is a concern whether those born in the 70s and 80s have enough confidence to become the next generation of business leaders of Vietnam.
