At least seven people were injured when a foot overbridge collapsed at a railway station and caved in on a passing goods train in the eastern Indian state of Bihar Wednesday, a railway official said.

"The incident happened at the main railway station in the state 's Muzaffarpur district, some 90 km from Bihar's capital Patna. Though no one has been killed, some seven people trapped under the debris of the overbridge were pulled put and admitted to a local hospital, some with critical injuries," he said, on condition of anonymity.

Local TV channels beamed footage of the collapse bridge and reported that it was partially damaged.

A probe has been ordered into the incident, the official said.

Lack of maintenance is often blamed for bridge collapses in railway stations.

Some 20 people were killed and many others injured in a stampede when a foot overbridge collapsed at Allahabad station in the northern state of Uttar Pradesh in February.
