VietNamNet Bridge – Two buses collided in Cam Ranh City, central Khanh Hoa Province yesterday morning causing eleven passengers died and more than 50 others were critically injured

A bus deformed by the powerful collision.

The accident occurred at 0:40 am March 8 in the city’s Cam Nghia Ward when a north-south coach operated by the Chin Nghia Company coming from the north slammed into the other one owned by the Cuc Dung Company going in the opposite direction.

The head-on collision killed nine passengers instantly and injured 49 others, two of whom died on the way to the hospital.

The other injured victims are being treated at Cam Ranh City General Hospital and Cam Lam District General Hospital.

Cam Ranh City General Hospital received 48 victims from the crash. The hospital has mobilized 65 doctors and other health workers to help treat the large number of victims

At 7:40 am, the Cam Lam General Hospital reported that 11 people had been taken to the hospital, though one had died on the way.

Immediately after receiving the information about the tragic accident in Khanh Hoa Province, killing 11 people, Vice Chairman of the National Standing Committee for Traffic Safety  Nguyen Hoang Hiep immediately participated at the scene to deal with the consequences.

The Ministry of Transport and the National Traffic Safety Committee decided to support each family of the dead VND 2 million, each wounded 1 million.

Cam Ranh City authorities also gave VND2 million (US$96) to each of the families of the dead victims, VND1 million to every seriously injured victim, and VND500,000 to every slightly injured victim as initial support.

According to initial investigation, the accident occurred while the coach coming from the north was speeding in the wrong lane.

After the tragic accident happened, Minister of Transport Dinh La Thang stressed the need to review the driver training process, issuance of driving licenses and focuses on traffic ethics of the drivers.
