Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Kim Son has reported to the National Assembly on the implementation of the resolution on questioning activities at the second session of the 15th National Assembly in the field of education and training.

Regarding the organization of online teaching and studying, MOET has pointed out difficulties for both teachers and students.

The biggest problems that most schools have are a lack of equipment for online teaching (31.6 percent), and lack of timely support from institutions and agencies (29.4 percent).

The survey also found that 42.6 percent of teachers have health problems and 37.2 percent of teachers have psychological problems. Meanwhile, 45 percent of students have health problems when studying online, such as eyestrain, neck pain and tinnitus.

Teachers believe that online study affects students’ physical, psychological and emotional heath, and the development of social skills (62-77 percent) with the influence level increasing gradually from primary education to higher education.

Teachers at different education levels believe that online teaching is relatively effective for students (the number of teachers at primary schools, secondary schools and high schools agreeing were 64.4 percent, 65.5 percent and 65.1 percent, respectively). Meanwhile, 20.9 percent of primary school teachers, 19.8 percent of secondary school teachers and 21.2 percent of high school teachers believe that online teaching is ineffective.

MOET said it would attach much importance to giving consultancy and psychological support to students, and increase interactions and connections among students in classes.

The ministry has instructed education establishments to pay special attention to first graders who have never been to school. The establishments need to disseminate regulations on learning and activities at school; organize activities to create excitement and comfort for students; and must not discriminate against students who have Covid-19. 

Schools need to organize teaching well at school, give basic knowledge, and not put pressure on students.

Regarding the compilation of textbooks for the new general education program, MOET said the ministry has examined and approved the use of 40 samples of textbooks for seventh graders, 60 samples for 10th graders, and 43 for third graders.

The ministry has been strictly following the process of selecting authors and experimenting with textbooks compiled by organizations and individuals at education establishments. Meanwhile, the members of the national council for textbook examination have been selected in accordance with strict rules.

However, MOET admitted that some textbooks still have mistakes. The mistakes were found in textbooks for first, second and sixth graders.
