The programme, co-organised by the Goethe Institute Hanoi and Manzi Art Space-Café, is part of the “Berlinale Shorts Go Abroad” series of events.

Ten exclusive short films from six different countries have been chosen to be shown in their original language with Vietnamese and English subtitles, including “Planet ∑”; “Shadow land”; “Dissonance”; “Take What You Can Carry”; “Snapshot Mon Amour”; “El Juego Del Escondite” (Hide & Seek); “Däwit”; “YúYú” and “Symbolic Threats”.

This year’s edition features movies of different categories, from documentaries to fictional stories, or animated movies. Central themes are personal life stories and rituals, portraying longing, love, cruelty and absurdism. Some of the films give thought-provoking impulses, others open up a whole new world to the viewer.

The movies will be playing the entire day in loop from 10 am till 10 pm.

The Berlinale Shorts is expected to move to Ho Chi Minh City and Hue, and will continue their journey to more countries in Southeast Asia.

The Berlin International Film Festival, more commonly known as Berlinale, ranks among the most important film festivals in the world. Movies of all genres, lengths and formats are awarded. Since 2007, the Berlinale Shorts also awards prizes to short films, mostly works of talented young artists.
