VietNamNet Bridge - Tran Van Dat, 14, had to bike alone on Highway 1A from Duc Tho District of Ha Tinh province to Quang Binh province, totaling 250km, after getting lost.
The police handed over the boy to his father.
On the morning of July 22, at the headquarters of Quang Binh province’s traffic police department, Tran Van Thuy came to pick up his son, who had been missing for three days.
At around 8pm on January 21, Quang Binh traffic policemen saw a boy cycling on Highway 1A in Le Thuy District in the province.
The police stopped him and discovered that the boy was lost. According to Dat, he left home on the afternoon of January 19 on his bicycle to attend a wedding party at the home of a relative in Ha Tinh, but he got lost.
"The kid said he pedaled alone to Quang Tri province and returned to Quang Binh. He had a VND200,000 ($10) banknote in the pocket. He spent VND100,000 on the road. He wandered on the road at night. He did not ask local people along the road for directions," a traffic police officer said.
The police took Dat to their office, gave him food and informed the authorities of the boy’s hometown. His family had reported their son’s absence to the local government. It is estimated that Dat cycled about 250 km in three days.
